Using Your Inverter
Builds fitted with an inverter or inverter/charger.
An inverter converts battery DC power into AC power for compatible appliances. Which outlets it supplies depends on your van’s wiring.
Your inverter rating and your battery capacity describe different things. The inverter’s continuous and surge ratings help determine which appliances it can start and run. Battery capacity helps determine how long they can operate.
Before using an appliance
Confirm that the outlet is supplied by the inverter.
Check the appliance’s power demand, including startup demand.
Allow for other appliances running at the same time.
Stay within the limits of the complete installed system.
Kettles, cooking appliances, coffee machines and air conditioners can place substantial demands on the system. Do not assume they can all operate together.
When to switch it off
If you do not need inverter-powered appliances, switching the inverter off can reduce standby consumption. Follow your handover instructions: inverter, charger and mains pass-through controls differ between systems.
An inverter alarm
Record the exact fault message. Turn off connected appliances if safe and follow the matching manual. Repeated alarms or trips need investigation rather than repeated resetting.
