Fridges, Mains Power & Master Switches

All owners; operation depends on the fitted fridge and wiring.

Does my fridge switch to mains power?

That depends on the fridge.

A 12V-only fridge continues to use the van’s DC supply when you connect to mains. The battery charger can support that supply, but the fridge itself does not become a mains-powered appliance.

Some portable fridges accept both AC and DC power. Other fridge types operate differently. Check the exact appliance manual and how it is connected in your build.

Does the inverter need to be on?

A fridge connected directly to the van’s 12V system does not need an inverter to convert power for it. An appliance connected through an inverter-powered outlet has different requirements.

What does the away or master switch do?

Master switches and screen modes can control several circuits. Depending on the build, switching a mode off may also turn off the fridge.

Before leaving the van or going to bed, confirm that the fridge remains powered and cooling. Do not assume that a switch behaves the same way across every Goldfields model.

If the fridge stops

Check its display, the relevant labelled controls and any fault message. Keep food safe while you investigate. Contact Goldfields if you cannot identify the cause.
