Charging Your Camper or Caravan

Builds with the charging equipment described below.

Your camper may charge from mains power, your tow vehicle and solar. The equipment fitted to your build determines how each charging source operates.

Mains charging

Where fitted, an AC charger or inverter/charger converts mains electricity into battery charging power. Being plugged into a powered site does not, by itself, confirm that the battery is charging. Check the charger status and battery monitor using the instructions supplied with your build.

Vehicle charging

A DC–DC charger manages charging from the tow vehicle. Charging depends on the vehicle connection, charger configuration and operating conditions. Having an Anderson plug does not guarantee that a vehicle is correctly wired for your camper.

Solar charging

Solar output changes with shade, cloud, panel temperature and the angle of the sun. A panel’s advertised wattage is its rated output under test conditions, not a constant charging rate.

Only connect portable panels or blankets approved for your solar input. A matching plug does not confirm compatible voltage, polarity or regulator arrangements.

If charging seems low

Check the displayed charge source, battery level and any fault messages. Consider whether appliances are using power at the same time. Photograph the displays and contact Goldfields if the readings are unexpected.

Do not alter wiring, bridge terminals or bypass protection devices to restore charging.
